Things to Do:
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Opened in 1909, it is synonymous with speed and racing around the world.
The Speedway also is a fun place to visit even when the engines aren’t roaring. The IMS Hall of Fame Museum is one of the world’s leading museums dedicated to auto racing history and motorsports, and Grounds Tours provide behind-the-scenes access to many iconic structures and places at the track. Golfers also can enjoy the experience of playing 18 holes at Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, a Pete Dye-designed, championship-caliber public course that includes four holes inside the Speedway’s famous oval.
Indianapolis Museum of Art
Located on 152 acres of gardens and grounds, the museum’s permanent collection spans a vast range of cultures and eras, and numbers more than 50,000 works (including one of the nation’s largest and most significant collections of Asian art–along with so many other equally impressive features that you should really visit their website, in order to be properly awed).
Elsewhere on the grounds, visitors may tour the historic Oldfields estate, and then stroll through gardens designed in the 1920s by the famous Olmstead Brothers landscape design firm. Elsewhere, 100 Acres: The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park offers visitors one of the United States’ foremost museum contemporary sculpture parks, with installations integrated into woodlands, wetlands, lakes and meadows.
President Benjamin Harrison Home
The Delaware Street home of Benjamin Harrison is open for guided tours on the hour and half-hour Monday through Saturday.
Sun King Brewing Co.
Sun King Brewing Company is an Indianapolis-based, brewer-owned craft brewery with a focus on continually creating traditional, seasonal and unique specialty beers. Located in a downtown Indianapolis warehouse, Sun King is the first full-scale production brewery in Indianapolis since 1948 and the only beer canning operation in Indiana.
Brewery Tours- Thursday at 6 pm (except during tappings), and Saturday at 2 pm and 3 pm
Easley Winery
Opening in 1974, Easley Winery is the oldest family owned winery in the state of Indiana. Depending on the year and season, Easley offers up to about 25 different wines. The winery is located in the Cole-Noble Commercial Arts District, only 0.5 miles from the Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.
Aarcher Institute Recommendations
Slippery Noodle – Great live music–blues, rock, folk, jazz.
Mesh on Mass – Very cool place to eat but a little pricey.
Downtown Indy is very walkable, so no cars needed.
